Match preview Bristol City v Newcastle United

Newcastle take the long trip down south to my hometown city this weekend when they take on Lee Johnson’s Bristol City.
I can’t promise you sunny southern weather since the sun has decided to take it’s own holiday for a while.

Instead Newcastle will be greeted by gale force winds and rain if our local weather men are right. However Toon fans will get to see the newly revamped Ashton Gate stadium which looks very good. I have passed it by on a weekly basis and watched it slowly take shape and it wouldn’t look out of place in the Premier league now and that after all is where Bristol City want to be.

City manager Lee Johnson has brought in a number of new players this summer and one in particular takes the eye and that’s the loan signing of Tammy Abraham from Chelsea. The lad looks a belter and has already got himself on the score sheet 4 times in their first three matches. I have a sneaky feeling he may prove a handful on saturday so our defence will need to cut out the lack of concentration that has proved our downfall oh so often.

Another player to look out for is Aden Flint, a centre back that Sunderland wanted last season and we were recently linked with. I know that City fans were desperate to see him stay with them as he is an integeral part of the teams spine and were doubtless breathing a collective sigh of relief when we went shopping at Blackburn instead.

Lee Johnson says he’s excited at the prospect of pitting his wits up against Rafa Benitez and Ashton Gate will have it’s biggest gate for 25 years helped by the newly built stand which has increased the capacity. Some 21,000 are expected on the day with 2,500 from Newcastle.

Referee for the day will be Tony Harrington from Cleveland. He likes a yellow card does Tony, so far dishing out 17 since the season kicked off. Maybe this isn’t the game to push boundries then.

Newcastle will be without Sissoko again due to a knock, but Diame is back in contention, Mitrovic serves the last of his 4 game ban.

Bristol City are without defender Derrick Williams (shoulder injury) and both goalkeeper Frank Fielding and midfielder Korey Smith are out with ankle injuries.

Let’s hope Newcastle can pick up some more points and build some momentum.

  1. the Spurs kid must have signed as Janmaat has signed for Watford on 4 yr deal which would only be agreed if they had a replacement

  2. Yedlin signing makes more sense with Janmast leaving. He’ll provide cover at RB and RM, and hopefully give Rafa the ability to move Anita around where needed

  3. Not sorry to see Janmaat go, poor defender imo, thought Simmo was better when it came to defending.

  4. Kim IMO Simpson was very under rated by most off our fans , yeah he wasn’t bombing up the wings etc but for me that wasn’t his job.
By the way why are we still on a thread that was from last week ??

  5. I saw stories today that Janmaat had gone to Wet Spam..? So he has signed for Watford then? We can wave to him as we swap division with them… ?

  7. Guys I will be quiet on the writing front for the next month because I need to study for promotion interview boards. After that regardless of whether the owners pull their finger out, I’ll do my best to make sure we have at least 1 thread up per game – like there should be! May even look into starting my own little blog somewhere but got no idea about costs etc so will take advice because I would not be looking to make money from it with loads of ads but obviously would not want it to be too expensive to run because it’s a lot of work…. We’ll see…

Ice I hate having to scroll past the trending article adds and quite often when I click newer comment button I get pop up adds

    even me mate,fed up

  9. Looks like I could set up a basic blog for £200 and then £40 per month the running costs.

If I seriously looked into setting it up from October with a view to starting in January, I’d need to either run some advertising to cover costs or I could ask for voluntary contributions on a bit for profit basis. I would prefer no ads and voluntary contributions but if I could not meet running costs after a few months, I’d cut my losses. Would that be of interest to anybody?

I would not be anywhere near a prolific writer but if I could get the likes of Kim and 1 or 2 others in board then we could probably make sure we had at least 1 match thread per game and at least 1 article in between games to do with ongoing Toon news. There would be no mass adverts all over the page etc.

  12. That sounds great Prem, thanks. If a few others support the idea, I’ll look to launch in January.

  13. Welcome to Yedlin and goodbye to Janmaat. Youth and pace coming in but defensively? Any better than Janmaat? I’ll have to wait and see. Still the pace is nice. Still worried about the left side though although possibly Gamez is going to actually play there? Where does that leave Anita? It’s exciting to see the club transformed though!

  14. Sham, How about making it a members blog where you pay an annual subscription to join. If enough did it would that cover cost? Can’t think of any other way other than ads

  15. Did Anzhi Makhachkala did a vindaloo delivery man Shammy? Or are they going to have him return the out of bounds balls? So to be cynical but have they seen him try to play football?

  16. Be a mistake to let Mbemba go.

Kim I’m not sold on a members subscription so to speak, because it places an obligation on the writers to always keep the content like clockwork whilst I think a fledgling blog would find it hard to attract enough people to commit in that way.

A link to a facility for people to offer voluntary contributions could work though. I could have a running monthly target visible at the top of the page ( this would be only for covering costs and not for profit). If the site took more in 1 month then it needed, the money could be carried over into the following month, reducing the monthly target. If it worked, great. If not, I just call it a day..

  18. But how do we keep Aarons fit Munich mate? He’s already wrapped in cotton batten after each match and carefully stored with the best China.

    Sounds fair enough

  20. Sham… Happy to contribute mate. Really like the blog, or used to… What about a crowd funding site to get the contributions?

  21. Aarons has what could turn out to be a serious foot injury according to Rafa. It may keep him out for some time. Should never have taken the cotton batten off him. 🙁

  22. Kim defiantly agree Simpson was much better than Janmatt. Farewell Janmatt and good luck at your new club.

  23. We are just stuck with the deluded Sissoko now. Maybe Celtic might put in a late loan deal with an option to buy. It defiantly saves wasting money like Carr has in the past.

twitter are saying Aarons has broke a bone in his foot

  26. Sham-

Let me know if you need any help with creating a masthead or anything like that. I’m a graphic designer, so I could possibly put together a few options once you have a name picked out.

      (Quote)

  27. Ok cheers Charlie. I’ll be honest, I know next to nowt about making websites etc so any help is appreciated. It would not be a commercial venture. Just somewhere for us Toon fans to hang out. Simple as that really.

  28. I’m not all that well versed in web design, but I know a little about the visual aspects, so I could definitely put something together for the top of the home page.

I see that this site is built on WordPress – they have quite a few decent looking templates that are either free or cheap, so that could be an easy way to get started and not have to worry about building the site from scratch.

      (Quote)

  29. Yeah Charlie, I’ll be using word press because I know how to publish from it etc and it’s quite user friendly when it comes to adding videos and images.

Having your help puttung a decent banner on the top would be nice though, as it’ll be unique then and will no doubt be 10 times better than any generic template.

Anyone seen Stuani’s goal for Boro against the Scum? Absolute cracker.

Yeah I watched the game Sham , it was a beauty alright.

  31. Yeah not a bad idea Kim. Will get he next month out the way then will get on it. If I do it, I’ll be looking to get you on board as joint chief writer with admin access if interested. Same as me though, no pressure to churn out excessive material – just ensure between us we get a match thread up per game and then anything in between is a bonus with the help of anybody else that wants to chip in.

      (Quote)

  32. I’ll do my best Sham, only worry would be when Lew is poorly I can’t do much and would worry about letting you down . Don’t let me loose on the admin or the whole lot will go tits up 😆 I’m a complete technophobe mate.

      (Quote)

  33. Yeah fair enough. I’ll sort the admin until somebody else fancies a crack at it. The idea would be that there is no pressure the churn out material for the sake of it, because we won’t be looking to profit – so not that many articles will need to go up. Just important ones like match threads and big Toon news. Anything else in between would just be a bonus, like opinion pieces you do, financial pieces Prem does do or stat pieces I do etc. If you were bogged down it would be no bother.

      (Quote)

  34. Sham I would be happy to also pay a bit. To be honest, the ads wouldnt bother me either, just skip past. Just wish they would hand this blog over to you, and then you get the team of writers together to publish. I know you wouldnt make any money from that, but guessing that wouldnt really bother you. The guys running the site would keep the cash coming in, admittedly for doing very little and we would all get articles on a regular basis, think we would all be happy and also keep what I think is the best blog of the lot going

      (Quote)

  35. I’d be more than happy to contribute, no problem, Sham. I think we need to get a grip on the blog (a blog) or its curtains…unless we win a trophy… 😆

Yeah, shouldn’t be too hard to knock up at least one article a week Sham. Like you say there’s plenty that can. Prems are good and Big Dave and Aussie always did nice threads too. Maybe a few who haven’t done one before can have a go.

  37. Sham you have my email mate , I will be more than glad to help in anyway I can.
The whole ethos of the original Blog.co.uk seems to have dissappeared, and as I said from the start of the change over it seems to be a them and us type set up.
Yeah I did notice for a while that the new owners seemed to make a real effort, which seemed to have made a big difference, but that seems to have dissappeared lately.
I guess the feeling I get now is that it is back to being more about adds etc than being about the support of our club.

  38. Cheers guys. Well give it a month and I’ll start building a place with a view to a January launch. Will keep you all in the loop and any tips/assistance is welcome.

I think the new guys have spent a lot in their investment and are entitled to run the place how they see fit, but some of us have a different idea of what we want from a fan blog that’s all.
