Newcastle United face a battle to keep hold of a key defender with both West Ham United and Napoli hovering, reports The Chronicle.
Dutchman Daryl Janmaat has been the subject of intense speculation over his future and Magpies boss Rafa Benitez believes the speculation is distracting the player.
Benitez confirmed that the club had yet to receive an offer for the defender but didn’t deny it would be accepted if it was deemed to meet the club’s valuation.
Janmaat has been kept out of the side due to Vurnon Anita’s form but you have to wonder if it was based on an expectation that a bid is coming.
When results are going your way, nobody questions the wisdom of a potential sale. However, unless Benitez has a clear target in mind to replace him, I wouldn’t be happy with a sale taking place.
It’s not my decision though. Rafa is paid his salary to make these choices and in the manager we have to trust.
