Newcastle United eyeing up a surprise move for Premier League midfielder

Championship side Newcastle United are planning a swoop for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino revealed earlier this month that Nabil Bentaleb did not feature in his plans and as a result, the midfielder has been banished to train with the Under-21 side recently.

While Bentaleb may not have a future at Tottenham, the Algerian international is wanted by a host of clubs and reports have claimed that Bundesliga side Schalke had placed a bid for the midfielder.

Now according to reports from the Daily Mirror, even Newcastle have joined in the race to sign Bentaleb and the Magpies are hoping to use Tottenham’s interest in Moussa Sissoko to broker a deal for the 21-year-old.

Newcastle value Sissoko at around £30 million and the Mirror state that Bentaleb will be used as ‘a bargaining chip’ to reduce what Spurs would have paid for the French international.
