Arsenal are considering a move for Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, according to reports from HITC Sport
Newcastle United splashed around £8 million to secure the services of Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht at the start of last season and while the defender did not set the Premier League alight, it has to be said that he produced a number of encouraging displays throughout the course of the campaign.
Unsurprisingly, Mbemba has been a key figure in the Newcastle first team during the current Championship season under Rafael Benitez and it seems like the 22-year-old is already grabbing the attention of a number of Premier League sides.
According to reports from HITC, claims are being made that North-London giants Arsenal are currently considering a surprise swoop for the DR Congo international.
Arsenal are currently in the market to sign a new central defender and after having seen their pursuits for Jonny Evans and Shkodran Mustafi thwarted, manager Arsene Wenger is said to be currently eyeing up an alternative in the form of Mbemba.
