Ex-Arsenal star slams Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing

Sissoko

Paul Merson believes that Tottenham have made an aberration in splashing £30 million to secure the services of Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United.

The main story of the transfer deadline day this summer was most certainly Moussa Sissoko after Tottenham Hotspur splashed a whopping £30 million to land the services of the French international from Newcastle United.

Following the completion of the transfer, there has been a lot of speculation as to whether Sissoko is worth the money and Tottenham have indeed taken a leap of faith by spending so much on the 27-year-old.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson does not seem to be a fan of Sissoko and the 48-year-old has now gone on to hint that Tottenham have made a big error in signing the former Toulouse star for such a huge figure.

“I watched him at Newcastle last year, he stayed out on the wing and didn’t do anything,” the Gunners’ legend explained, via the Express.

“When you’re that good you’ve got to be able to do something out of the ordinary to get your team out of it as that’s what top players do. I wouldn’t have been putting my £30m on him.

“He was playing in front of 50,000 Geordies, if you can’t get up for that, when are you ever going to get up for playing a football match.”

Despite all the criticism, Sissoko did play extremely well in the 2016 European Championships and it will be interesting to see if the new Tottenham midfielder is able to silence his doubters.
