Newcastle United star accused of being clumsy

Former Scotland international Willie Miller has blasted Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley for being ‘too clumsy’.

Scotland claimed a convincing 5-1 victory over Malta in their opening game of the World Cup qualifiers during the weekend but despite the convincing final result, the Tartan Army were certainly made to work very hard to claim the three points.

Scotland struggled at the back in the first half during the encounter and defender Grant Hanley in particular seemed to be really struggling to cope with the Maltese attack.

Former Scotland defender Willie Miller was not left too impressed with the performance of Hanley against Malta and following the game, the Aberdeen legend has gone on to slam the Newcastle United man for being ‘too clumsy’.

Speaking to the BBC, Miller said, “There was an awful lot of barging and clumsy challenges from Newcastle United’s summer signing. He got himself dragged out of position and put in the kind heavy challenges that you don’t want to give away at international level.”

Hanley’s performance against Malta was most certainly very poor and the 24-year-old will surely want to bounce back with a good performance for Newcastle United this weekend.
