Former Newcastle star makes prediction about Magpies’ high-profile summer signing

Ex-Newcastle United star Steve Howey has claimed that striker Dwight Gayle will score a lot of goals in the Championship this season.

Newcastle United splashed around £10 million to secure the services of Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace this summer.

Although Gayle was considered a quality player prior to the transfer, many were worried as to whether the striker would be able to justify such a huge price tag following his difficult spell at Selhurst Park over the past few years.

To quash any doubts though, Gayle has made a stunning start to life at St. James’ Park after scoring four goals in as many matches in the Championship so far and the former Peterborough United star will surely be key in facilitating the Magpies’ hopes of earning promotion into the Premier League this season.

Former Newcastle United star Steve Howey is among the many people who has been impressed with Gayle so far and the 44-year-old has claimed that the talented attacker will grab a lot more goals in the Championship this season.

Howey said, “The lad Gayle, for me, I always thought he’d score goals and sure enough I think he has scored four or five this season. He is a goalscorer. He scored goals in the Premier League and I think he will get goals in the Championship.”
