Ex-Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren wanted by Leeds United?

Steve McClaren

Steve McClaren has been suggested as the potential next manager for Leeds United following his appearance at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Leeds United appointed the highly rated Garry Monk as their manager over the summer but despite the optimism surrounding his arrival, the 37-year-old already finds himself under immense pressure at Elland Road following a very poor start to the Championship campaign.

It was believed that Monk could potentially be sacked if Leeds United lost against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night and given the propensity of owner Massimo Cellino to change his managers, the reports seemed to have some credibility behind them.

Leeds eventually won the game against Blackburn 2-1 but that has not stopped the speculation surrounding Monk’s future and the Times recently reported that the former Swansea boss will be sacked despite the victory.

Curiously, former Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren was present at Elland Road during the game against Blackburn and there have now been suggestions that the 55-year-old could well replace Monk at the helm of Leeds if indeed the current Whites’ boss departs from his role.
