Newcastle United attacker Dwight Gayle has stated his belief that Aleksandar Mitrovic is his ideal strike partner.
Newcastle United splashed the cash to secure the services of Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace this summer and he has already managed to win a lot of admirers at St. James’ Park following a brilliant run in front of goal so far in the Championship.
While Gayle’s arrival has certainly been a huge boost for Newcastle, some fans have been left worried that the 25-year-old’s presence could potentially hinder Aleksandar Mitrovic’s chances of earning regular first team football during the current campaign.
However, Gayle does not necessarily think that he cannot play in the same lineup as Mitrovic and has actually gone on to suggest that the Serbian international would perhaps be the ideal strike partner for him.
Gayle was quoted saying by the Sunderland Echo, “He’s a great striker, great hold-up player. Me and him could work really well together. My runs off of his flick-ons would work well.
“But we’ve got some great different strikers here, and all different combinations would work well. I think the competition is perfect for the team. We could have to go differently against each team. The gaffer will pick the right players for each game.”
