Report: Newcastle United interested in signing French defender in January

St. James Park

Championship outfit Newcastle United are planning a swoop for French defender Jean-Kevin Duverne during the upcoming January transfer window, according to reports from the Examiner.

Rafael Benitez has done a fantastic job strengthening his Newcastle United squad during the summer and the Magpies currently look in very good shape to earn promotion into the Premier League.

Given the perfectionist nature of Benitez though, he is still working relentlessly to further improve his squad and a number of players have already started being linked with a move to St. James’ Park during the past few days.

Now according to reports from the Examiner, it has been claimed that Newcastle are currently considering a swoop for young French defender Jean-Kevin Duverne.

Duverne is currently plying his trade for Ligue 2 outfit Lens and having broken into the first team at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis this season, the 19-year-old has been attracting the interest from a number of clubs such as Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

It can now be revealed that Newcastle have also joined in the race to sign Duverne and the Magpies are hopeful of attracting the teenage sensation to St. James’ Park ahead of their Premier League competitors.
