Rafael Benitez will keep faith in goalkeeper Matz Sels despite his shaky performance against Aston Villa last weekend, according to reports from the Northern Echo.
Newcastle United were on the verge of claiming a huge victory over potential promotion rivals Aston Villa on Saturday but a late error from goalkeeper Matz Sels meant that the Magpies disappointingly had to settle for only a point.
Following the game, Sels has been subjected to some unsavory abuse online from a section of Newcastle fans for his poor display against Villa and due to the vile criticism; the Belgian international has been forced to close his social media accounts.
While majority of the Newcastle faithful have backed Sels to get back to his best, there is speculation that the under pressure 24-year-old could be dropped for the upcoming encounter against leaders Norwich City in midweek due to the huge magnitude of the game.
However, the Northern Echo have gone on to state that Benitez still has full faith in Sels’ abilities and that Newcastle will start with the former Gent star against the Canaries.
