Speaking to the Chronicle, Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has gone on to state that he is currently very happy at St. James’ Park.
There were very few positives to look back upon from Newcastle United’s terrible Premier League campaign last term but one of them was most certainly the performances of goalkeeper Rob Elliot.
Elliot was arguably the best player for Newcastle throughout the course of the campaign and as recognition of his efforts, the custodian won the club’s Player of the Year award.
The 30-year-old has missed a chunk of action over the past few months though due to a very serious knee injury and in his absence, the likes of Karl Darlow and Matz Sels have been guarding the sticks for the Magpies.
Despite the intense competition, Elliot signed a brand new four year deal with Newcastle recently and the Republic of Ireland international has now gone on to reiterate the fact that he is currently very happy at St. James’ Park, ahead of a return to full fitness.
He told the Chronicle, “As a footballer, you always have to maintain your self-belief. Football is a massive game of opinions so you have to keep yourself on the right track.
“Luckily for me, I got an opportunity. And that’s all I have wanted – to be able to show what I could do over a number of games. Luckily I had a decent season, even if it wasn’t enough to keep us up.
“It stands us in good stead for the future. The impact of the summer and the manager staying on makes you want to get back quicker. It adds to everything even more. It is a really good place to be at the moment.”
