Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has gone on to reveal that he has been closely monitoring young striker Adam Armstrong during his loan spell at Barnsley.
Adam Armstrong managed to create waves while on loan at Coventry City last season by scoring a sensational 20 league goals in League One and following such exploits, many expected the youngster to stake a claim for a regular first team place at Newcastle United this season.
However, the arrivals of Dwight Gayle and Daryl Murphy as well as the presence of Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic meant that Armstrong was pushed down the pecking order at Newcastle and was eventually shipped out on a season long loan deal to Barnsley.
Armstrong has done well at Oakwell so far and he really managed to make an impression with a stunning strike against Preston North End in September, which earned him the Championship Goal of the Month award.
Now Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has gone on to reveal that he has been closely monitoring Armstrong and has stated that he is very pleased for the youngster after he earned the Goal of the Month gong.
Benitez was quoted saying by the Shields Gazette, “I have been watching him. I’m very pleased. He got goal of the month, it was a great goal. Hopefully, he can continue to score goals.”
