Championship outfit Newcastle United may recoup a major portion of the funds they splashed to sign Florian Thauvin from Marseille last season, according to reports from the Chronicle (via HITC).
Newcastle United splashed a hefty £13 million to secure the services of Florian Thauvin from Marseille at the start of last season and given the heavy investment as well as his fine form in Ligue 1, it was expected that the Frenchman would be a good signing for the Magpies.
As it turned out though, Thauvin struggled to cope with the physicality of English football and after making only 12 appearances, the 23-year-old made a return back to Marseille during the January transfer window last term.
Over the summer, Thauvin has extended his loan stay at the Stade Velodrome for another season and he has been in very good form for the French side this term, scoring 3 goals as well as providing an assist in 9 league appearances.
Now according to reports from the Chronicle (via HITC), Thauvin’s encouraging displays have convinced Marseille to sign the attacker on a permanent basis for a fee of around £10.3 million, meaning that Newcastle could potentially recoup a major portion of what they splashed out to recruit him a year ago.
