Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has stated that he is refusing to get carried away despite the Magpies moving into the top of the Championship table.
Newcastle United continued their stunning run of form with a fine 2-0 away victory over Barnsley on Tuesday and the three points picked up on the night means that the Magpies have moved into the top of the Championship table for the first time this season.
Newcastle seem to be hitting top gear at the moment and the Magpies’ brilliant form will surely be ominous for the rest of the teams in the second tier of English football.
It is also understandable to see the St. James’ Park faithful currently feeling really confident of earning automatic promotion into the Premier League with consummate ease but manager Rafael Benitez is not getting carried away as of yet.
Benitez explained that it is ‘nice’ to have moved to the summit of the Championship standings but has reminded everyone that the Magpies still have a long way to go before they can start celebrating.
The Spaniard was quoted saying by the Shields Gazette, “Obviously, to get to the top of the table is really good. It’s especially nice to do it when you are playing away, then the fans are able to go back enjoying themselves. I am really pleased for them.
“Before the game, I was saying it is a long race, and it is still a very long competition. That has not changed, it is still a very long race.”
