Speaking to talkSPORT, former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has stated his belief that Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle will finish the current Championship campaign as the top scorer.

Newcastle United had made a number of quality signings over the summer but arguably their best acquisition so far has been of Dwight Gayle.

Gayle joined Newcastle from Crystal Palace for a sizeable fee of around £10 million but it would be fair to state that the 25-year-old has already managed to instantly repay the Magpies with his performances.

Gayle has scored a sensational 11 goals in 11 appearances so far this season and thanks to his brace in the 2-0 victory over Barnsley on Tuesday night, the Magpies have moved into the top of the Championship standings.

Many have understandably been left extremely impressed with Gayle’s performances so far this season and now former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has gone on to hail the ex-Peterborough star as a ‘brilliant signing’ before stating his belief that the attacker will finish the current campaign as the top scorer in the Championship.

Parlour told talkSPORT, “He’s a brilliant signing. He’s a poacher, he gets in the right positions and I thought he was a certainty to finish as top scorer in the Championship.”
