Speaking to the Chronicle, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that key midfielder Jack Colback has had to go to the hospital following his injury against Preston North End.
Newcastle United managed to seal their place in the quarter final of the League Cup following a 6-0 thumping of Preston North End on Tuesday night and there were most certainly many positives for the Magpies to look back upon from the clash.
The duo of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Mohamed Diame grabbing morale boosting braces, the electric performance of Christian Atsu and a record turnout for a League Cup clash at St. James’ Park in nearly over 40 years were just some of the pleasing aspects that Newcastle enjoyed on Tuesday.
However, one major negative from the clash for Rafael Benitez was the injury suffered by key midfielder Jack Colback.
Colback was forced off in the 32nd minute of the clash after being at the end of a nasty challenge from Preston’s Adam Browne and Benitez has gone on to reveal that the 27-year-old went to the hospital to have his injury assessed.
Benitez told the Chronicle, “I have to be really pleased. We knew we had to win but to win in style and playing so well by scoring so many goals as a manager I am pleased.
“I am disappointed to lose Jack Colback who has gone to hospital. He is getting assessed, we will have to wait. But in terms of the game we are pleased for everything.”
