Late Metro’s On Boxing Day?

This season, Newcastle United seem to be going the extra mile for their fans in a total change of focus from last season.

As reported by NUFC.co.uk, fans attending the Boxing Day fixture against Sheffield Wednesday will be able to use the Tyne & Wear Metro system to get to and from St James’ Park because the club agreed to cover the cost of evening services.

The game is scheduled for a 7:45pm kick off, which is after the service would usually finish.

However, in a bold move, the club has funded additional services from Newcastle city on all routes until approximately 11pm to allow enable fans to complete their journeys home.

Head of Safety and Security at the club, Steve Storey, said: “We are pleased to confirm that transport provisions will be in place to ensure fans can get to and from St James’ Park safely and conveniently on Boxing Day.

“We would like to thank Nexus and transport operators for their co-operation, including the staff who will be working on the day to help supporters to complete their journeys.”
