As reported by the Chronicle, Mats Sels is set to be offered an escape from Newcastle by his old club Gent.
Belgian sources state that Gent are interested in a new goalkeeper and Sels could well be on their radar.
The supposed deal would be a loan deal this winter, but perhaps the more pressing question is whether Newcastle should look to sell their goalkeeper.
Sels has not played in the league since a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, when his mistake made him a target for Twitter trolls.
Rafa Benitez took Sels out of the firing line following the game at Villa Park and the 24-year-old has not regained his starting position due to the fine form of Karl Darlow.
Sels however, has since featured in the EFL Cup win over Preston, keeping a clean sheet and performing very well in the process.
It seems that any decision to loan Sels out would be hasty, he is clearly a player that has some immense qualities. He just seems to require time to learn the English game.
