As reported by the Chronicle, Matt Ritchie has given a very honest assessment of his recent form.
The Scotland and Newcastle winger said: “I am pleased with how I started, I felt fresh and sharp. The last few games I have not been at the races to be honest with you.
“I’d say that I have had a little bit of a dip in form and haven’t quite been at the levels I want to be at.
Ritchie, however, clearly feels that he has the quality to get back to his very best, continuing: “But I continue to work hard and hopefully I can get back or can still improve. I am still learning different movements and new things under the manager.
“I am taking that on board and hopefully I can continue to improve with the manager and the coaches.
It is hard to disagree with Ritchie. It is also refreshing to have players at the club who are willing to accept responsibility for their form, following the apparent negativity from squad members in recent years.
“In the last few games I have not been as good as I can be. Hopefully, I can up my form a little and help the team.” Ritchie added.
