What Could Newcastle Fans Expect From This January Target?

As reported by the Chronicle, Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Porto and Mexico midfielder, Hector Herrera.

Herrera is a creative midfield player, who has been capable of scoring goals from midfield throughout his career. The Mexico star has a £35million release clause in his contract but after a quiet start to the season, it is unlikely that he would cost that much.

The Porto star could well be looking for a move, having lost the Porto captaincy earlier this season, perhaps he may feel that he needs a fresh move in order to rejuvenate his career.

He would however, add to the depth of the Newcastle squad, which could be looking rather threadbare in the creative midfield department, with Jonjo Shelvey’s FA hearing looming and Mo Diame away at the Africa Cup of Nations soon.

Herrera may wait for better options than Newcastle, but rumour has it that they are very interested in him, after Newcastle scouts attended Porto’s game against Braga at the weekend.
