Newcastle travelled to Ewood Park confident of a win yesterday, with the defeat to Owen Coyle’s men at St James’ Park still fresh in their memories.
However, despite dominating the majority of the game, having good ball possession and far more attempts than Blackburn, Newcastle saw themselves come away from the game with nothing, after having two goals disallowed.
A good free-kick from Charlie Mulgrew, saw Blackburn rewarded with what could be a vital three points in their bid to fight relegation.
Karl Darlow – Beaten on his side, from Mulgrew’s free-kick-, but even that wasn’t really his fault: 7
Vurnon Anita – Composed and read the game well for the most part, let down by Lascelles throughout: 7
Jamaal Lascelles (c) – A performance to forget for the United skipper, who has been struggling lately: 4
Ciaran Clark – Didn’t do too badly on the whole: 6
Paul Dummett – A solid performance, cleared when needed and knocked in some good crosses: 7
Isaac Hayden – Sloppy, particularly in the first half: 4
Jack Colback – Kept possession well for most of the game, then blotted his copy book with a silly foul for Blackburn’s goal: 5
Matt Ritchie: Not his best game but still did some good things: 6
Mo Diame: Some great moments, most notably when he hit the bar in the first half: 7
Yoan Gouffran: Gouffran didn’t match his own standards from this season: 6
Dwight Gayle: Just not his day: 6
Ayoze Perez- Not much came off for him: 6
Christian Atsu – Not on long but did create one good chance late on*
Daryl Murphy- Brought on very late*
*not on long enough to receive a mark
