As reported by the Chronicle, Newcastle United could be set to lose Chancel Mbemba this January, as his former club Anderlecht have registered an interest.
Anderlecht’s apparent interest was reported by HLN.
When Newcastle were relegated, there were very few people who thought that Mbemba would be anything less than a regular starter for the side this season.
In fact, there were many people who thought that Mbemba was too good for the Championship and a struggling Newcastle side.
However, as this season, has gone on, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has made it clear that is first choice centre back partnership is captain Jamaal Lascelles and his own signing, Ciaran Clark.
This has left Mbemba in a battle with another new signing, Grant Hanley, for his place on the substitutes bench. If truth be told, Mbemba is too good to be a substitute in this division and if he stays on Tyneside, he may well regain his starting place before the season is over.
