Magpies Set To Launch Bid For Former International Midfielder

As reported by the Chronicle, Newcastle United are set to make an attempt to bring back former Newcastle, and current Crystal Palace midfielder, Andros Townsend.

Townsend was one of the few shining lights for the Magpies last season, but left the club to a mixed reaction, following relegation in the summer.

He had joined in the January window, after being frozen at his former club Tottenham Hotspur, and almost gave Newcastle a chance of survival with a number of great performances and impressive goals.

Townsend performed so well that he almost earned an England call up for the Euro 2016 tournament, he even made an appearance as a substitute in one of the warm up games, against Australia.

Whether or not he would be welcomed back with open arms is up for debate, but he is a very good player. He has pace, skill and flair in abundance and despite not setting the world alight at Crystal Palace, he would be a good option to rotate with Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu.
