Why Daryl Murphy Is ‘Upset’

As reported by the Chronicle, Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy is “upset” about Dwight Gayle’s injury.

Murphy, who scored the winner against Brentford on Saturday, was asked about Gayle’s injury and said: “Hopefully, it’s not too bad an injury – we’ll find out more tomorrow. Any team would miss Dwight Gayle.

He went on to talk about Gayle’s incredible goal return, adding: “That was his 20th goal for the season, and he’s just a great finisher, isn’t he? Any team would miss that.

“He runs in behind, and he’s got that pace that most players don’t have. That upsets teams, and he’ll be a big loss.

However, Murphy also expressed his confidence in himself and the rest of the squad, adding: “We’ve got the players there. We’ve always had players that could come in if anything happened, or if the manager wanted to change the team.

“We’ve got the players in all the positions, and anyone can step up really.

“I actually knew I was going to score when I came on. I always score against Brentford for some reason.

“I knew if I got a chance, I would score, and thankfully that’s what happened.”
