Current Club Hammer Ex-Newcastle Flop

Henri Saivet

As reported by the Chronicle, St. Etienne’s president Roland Romeyer has slammed on-loan midfielder Henri Saivet, saying that he thought the midfielder would “bring more” to the side.

Romeyer was speaking at a question and answer session with supporters of the club, and said: “It was thought that Saivet, who was a great player at Bordeaux, would bring us more,”

“We are looking for solutions, but nothing is done.

“We are working over profiles, but it’s complicated.”

Saivet was brought to Newcastle last January when Steve McClaren was in charge, although whether or not McClaren signed him has been thrown into doubt many times.

He joined from Bordeaux and many thought that he would add some much needed depth to the Newcastle midfield.

While Saivet may have flopped on Tyneside, many would argue that it was Seydou Doumbia that was the worst signing that window, not Saivet. Although, that really says more about Doumbia than Saivet.

These bad deals should serve as a reminder to Newcastle not to rush into anything in this window.
