Who Should Play Up Front For Newcastle Today?

Newcastle travel to Oxford today, and despite the knowledge that FA Cup ties can often cause upsets, there seems to be a sense of optimism in the air.

After a good run in the League Cup and a first FA Cup victory in five years, most seem confident that Rafa Benitez can take his side on a good FA Cup run, as well as guiding them to promotion.

However, at the time of the injury to Dwight Gayle, Newcastle fans could be forgiven for thinking that all of these plans could be derailed.

This worry was put to bed in the very same game that Gayle suffered his injury, with Daryl Murphy coming on as a substitute and grabbing the winner against Brentford, in that game.

Since then, there has been a starring role from Yoan Gouffran, who gave a brilliant account of himself in the replay against Birmingham, and another goal for Murphy.

The question is, should it Murphy to lead the line again today? Should Gouffran be given another chance in his proffered position? Or should Aleksandar Mitrovic come in after injury?

For me, Mitrovic is the obvious answer. With Sammy Ameobi Cup-tied and Christian Atsu still at the African Cup Of Nations, Gouffran will be needed on the left hand side, while Daryl Murphy should be saved for the league.

Mitrovic deserves the chance to stake a claim for the starting spot, and I would expect him to get the chance today.

  1. I think my blood is going to boil to the point of exploding out of my vessels!! Big protests in London protesting against trumps refugee policy! Firstly, what the fck has it got to do with them and secondly, why don’t these social justice warriors protests when we have terrorists attacks in Europe actually killing people. Jesus Christ, man, all he’s done is decided not to allow people in his country from certain countries which he thinks will make his country safer.

This world is going to hell in a hand cart and it’s not because of people like Trump, it’s because of these bleeding heart liberals who have nothing better to do than complain and whinge about how everyone else in the world is treated while ignoring things closer to home.

  4. Ice – Why they’re protesting here I have no idea. What exactly can we do about US’ policies? They don’t protest and sign petitions when Saudi Arabia are chopping people’s heads off or not letting women drive (debatable whether that’s a good or bad policy in fairness ?) but ffs – get a life!

Stu – they are protesting about Trumps arranged state visit. They see his visit as England supporting or accepting his view rather than them trying to change American politics.

The reality is that he isn’t stopping people entering America. He is vetting people returning from those Countries as those are the Countries people go to for the radical terrorist training camps – it’s not stopping them entering USA providing they pass the vetting – fair play I reckon.

I don’t like his views on torture & abortion – but then there are many things I don’t like about our politicals but I can’t send them to another Country, so why should Trump be stopped visiting England if May & the Queen welcome him.

  7. Correct, Ice. These liberals forget it was the Americans that gave them a future and that allows them to protest like this. They try protesting in these countries Trumpy has banned and they’d have their bloody hands chopped off!

Why don’t we try to solve our own issues before getting involved in every other Tom, **** and Abdul’s?

  8. Lads I know what you’re saying and personally I don’t care about Trump one way or another. But to refer to him as if he represents Americans is incorrect really – there’s a large portion of Americans who don’t like him either.
Funnily enough I see him as someone who could be quite destructive, but he’s not the devil.

  9. He does represent the US though, Sharpy. He’s their President. But let’s be honest, he has a refugee policy – it’s not the same as ours, so what’s everyone’s problem?

Anyway I see Palace have bid for Sahko at Liverpool. Suppose that means Mbemba is staying here.

Stu – yeah but to be fair Thatcher ‘represented’ Britain once.

I really hope we can strike a deal where Townsend comes & we keep Mbemba – and I certainly think Mbemba is better than Sakho.

  16. Wow, I am surprised that no one has mentioned the free advertising Ashley is getting and the Andy Carroll money ??

It beggars belief that people are basing their arguments on what is happening at the club on paper talk.
Not signing any one = Ashley has said not to spend any money.

What a load of ****…. sorry..

Valid opinion mate, but I know many Britons who would disagree & actually toasted her passing.

  18. One thing the Trump election has shown is the absolute bias the media is capable of spewing out. I tell my kids not to fully believe anything they see/read on the news as most of it is geared towards ratings and not the facts.
As they say “Never let the facts get in the way of a good story”.

  19. Often I said, Aussie. A once in 100 years exepction isn’t a great counter argument.

Palace have basically told us if we want to loan him and buy him at the end of the season we must pay £15m. £2m loan and the £13m we sold him for. Perfectly acceptable for me as Palace gain very little from loaning him out for nothing.

We either buy him or we don’t.

      (Quote)

  20. Cmon Stuart…. you’re a business man, would you honestly take that deal?
If you sold me something for 13k and agreed to let me pay it off in installments and after paying you back just 2k, we both decided to reverse the deal as it suited us both. Now I say, give me back the 2k that I have paid and you can loan it back. Once the loan ends, you will agree to pay me the full 13k in installments. Sound perfectly acceptable?
Like **** it would seem like a “perfectly acceptable” deal…
Palace can go get ****** just on principle alone..

      (Quote)

  21. That depends, Aussie. If I was Palace I would absolutely want a loan fee because loaning him out has no advantage to Palace. It only advantages Newcastle so I would want to get something for it. The onus is on Newcastle really to either get their way but have to pay for it or pay the same price they sold him for which is £13m. Basically I believe Palace are well within their rights to want a fee for a loan because otherwise they’re just giving him away for 6 months for nowt. Why would they do that?

You’re right about the media though. The BBC over here are a absolute bias joke! They’ve even stopped trying to hide it now.

      (Quote)

  22. I see your point and I totally get Palaces take on the deal. To me they are being cheeky ****** seeing it is for a player they don’t even want..
I ask again, would you take the deal, if presented with the scenario above.

our media here just follows what is trending.. in short, the popular news channels here are a fuking joke..

      (Quote)

  23. Think Palace are being really cheeky here like, they don’t even want him 🙄

I don’t like Trump, I think he’s very divisive and woman’s rights mean nothing to him apparently. BUT it’s his country and he can do what he wants. The protest are about his state visit and though I understand the protesters views they forget that we have welcomed Saudi crown princes with little to no out cry which is staggering considering their human rights records.

  24. Stuart79:
No, Aussie wouldn’t pay to loan him – but I would pay the £13m and get him permanently now.

Agree, should be that straight forward

      (Quote)

  25. Kim, the reason Palace have said we want £2m for a loan is to force our hand to do a permanent deal. Could yet work.

      (Quote)

  26. Thanks Stuart.. agree would do the same…

Kim, the other vote was for Hillary whose husband had a mistress and a love of cigars and interns. And yet Hillary was accepting of such behaviors.. Trump is no angel, don’t get me wrong but the hypocrisy is unbelievable…

      (Quote)

  27. Don’t forget Clinton had more than one mistress! The man treated woman appallingly and much worse than Trump has ever done. But because Trump is unashamedly forthright in his views and doesn’t try to hide them for the media he’s vilified.

  29. Problem is, Aussie, most of the media and so called celebrities are Bleeding heart liberals and their bias in the media shows it. They hate it when someone with an opposing view is in the news. There’s a word for that by the way – bigotry!

  30. I haven’t even joined in yet and we are all about American politics 🙂

Trump is crazy, and he is stirring up this media frenzy. He is putting out all of his ideas at the same time to mask the next one which is getting rid of abortion in the US and Planned Parenthood which is a woman’s health clinic that the extreme right wing object to because they are the only place that perform abortions here.

Trump was the one that said Obama was not an American.

Trump is trying to repeal a law that gives most Americans health care.

I don’t really mind what he is doing with Islam because I think all religions are crazy and this one happens to be the craziest. Not even Germany or America can take in all of those refugees.

He is juicing the economy but all of the wealth will go to his friends. There will be a boom but he will not be here for the bust.

      (Quote)

  31. I really don’t get get how people can call Palace cheeky or greedy for wanting a loan fee. Who cares if it’s a player they don’t want. They are running a business and have running costs etc to cover. If we want to borrow their property, we have to pay. It’s fecking simple. They are not the issue. We are. Pay the going rate or **** off.

      (Quote)

  32. What over inflated balance? If we say we want to buy their player in the summer then we pay his value, which is £13m. Why should they give us a summer discount just because we borrowed him before hand? If we want him in the cheap now, we pay a loan fee. If we want to own him outright, then pay his value, which is £13m.

Why should we get something for nothing?

Our board know we are getting promoted, especially with Townsend back in the ranks. So just buy him outright now and save themselves the £2m extra. It’s not exactly a risk to buy him outright now as opposed to summer, just in case we don’t go up. We are going up!
