Rafa Seems Very Unhappy – Have Our Worst Fears Been Realised?

As reported by the Chronicle, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez seems to be very unhappy with those above him, following a disappointing draw at home to QPR.

After the game, Benitez was asked about Newcastle’s lack of action in the January transfer window, and the Spaniard said: “I can’t change things now so I have to concentrate on bringing the best from my players.”

“We knew what we needed and we knew what we have so we have to bring the best from the players we have.

However, Benitez did stop to say that he was happy with his current players, adding: “I am happy with them.

“We have to try to maintain the same level we had in the second half.”

Then when he was asked if could give a reason as to why the club did not sign anyone, he simply said: “No, because I don’t know.”

“I said before I am disappointed but I have to concentrate on the players we have and try to improve them.”

  1. need to capitalise on these chances, not clinical enough again but sounds like we have more about us than Wednesday.
And Ritchie nearly gifts them a goal, typical , poor error that.

  4. You can have Rafa sitting next to Mourinho and Wenger on your bench, but miss sitters and you’re knackered

  6. how many chances have we fluffed again today, could be costly. You just know Gayle would of had a couple by now. Can’t come back soon enough for me

  7. If we are going up automatically we need Mitrovic on better form that he’s on at the moment – is he still struggling with that knee injury or is it a rough patch?

  8. To be fair to Mitro he played a big part in our goal and is having a good game, just needs a goal really.

  12. Unlike Gashley was not at all impressed with Hanley. As for Mitro I have always thought him a cart horse but I thought he would leave the cart at home. The rest of the lads were great as was the result. Ritchie back to his best and Diame gave Derby some problems and would have scored but for a great save by their keeper. Unfortunately we tired in the last quarter of an hour and our reactions became sluggish which nearly let Derby back in.

  13. Still in town, I will write what I thought of the game when I get access to a keyboard and not on mobile. Biggest thing to report was the noise from our supporters. Derby brought lots of fans but were drowned out for virtually the whole game. First time I’ve seen that this season.

i hought he looked steady, not the quickest but kept things simple

  15. I thought Hanley had a good game from what I saw. Happy enough with the win, but we need to really put these games out of reach of the opposition.

  16. Good to hear we won. A crucial match to restore confidence. Well done lads. It will be good to get Gayle back.

  17. difference was the desire. we were in their faces from the start. Didnt give them time on the ball

Started to tire a little. If Diame and Mitro had of finished their easy chances, it would of been game over a lot quiker

  18. WTF: Mackems and Hull, Boro and Palace.

    Getting pretty congested down there.

I was sure that it would be Mackems and Hull down but please let it be Palace.

  19. Gashley. I must admit that the consensus appears to be that Hanley has a good game. Certainly he was better than Lascelles was on Wednesday night.

  20. I prefer a no nonsense CB to one who tries to be cocky & gets caught out. Lascelles nearly did a couple of times on Wednesday & he needs to cut that out.
He reminds me a bit of Ashley Williams in his build – he could do a lot worse than model himself on him IMO.

  21. Felt for Mitrovic a bit today. The kid desperately needs a goal & probably snatched at that chance a bit out of desperation.
That would have done wonders for his confidence had he scored.

I hope Rafa sticks with him & Diame who I think takes some of that physical burden from Mitro.
He needs to start the next one to try and get that goal. Bring Murphy on if it’s not happening, but start Mit IMO.
