Newcastle United 2-0 Aston Villa – How The Pantomime Villain Became The Toast Of Tyneside

Before the game, there seemed to be a feeling that last night’s game against Aston Villa was a must win, and that the game would be difficult.

If truth be told, both of those things were true. Villa were well organised, pressed high and had a great work ethic, everything that you would expect from a struggling team hoping to get a result against one of the top sides in their division.

However, despite this, the quality of the Newcastle players shone through and they were able to win by two goals to nil, playing some wonderful football in the second half of the game.

Another thing that everyone was sure of, going into the game,  was that Henri Lansbury would definitely not receive a warm welcome, and shockingly, he didn’t.

The former Nottingham Forest man was booed and jeered for almost the entire game, following a performance that would have been more suited to a pantomime than a football match, the last the that he played against Newcastle.

Actually, the only time that Lansbury was not booed was for a brief period following Newcastle’s second goal. The reason? He was the one who scored it. Lansbury’s own goal doubled Newcastle’s lead, following a first half strike from Yoan Gouffran, which was met by a brief chorus of “there’s only one Henri Lansbury.”

However, that was soon drowned out by a far less complementary song about the Villa midfielder.

In summary, Newcastle fans could not have wished for a better night. A comfortable win against a massive club, and the player who wanted so badly to be the villain of the piece sealing the win for them.

  1. Sharpy17: Ice – with Gayles injury, could we recall Armstrong?.
If not, I would consider signing Robbie Keane til the end of the season – I know he’s 36 but I reckon he could still do us a job to get us over the line.

Keane is a good shout mate

  2. I think we can get it done with what we have. It’s time Mitro got more playing time anyway. We have to see what he can do before the summer. Perez has to become more consistent as well. We’ll also get some goals from Ritchie, Diame, Shelvey and Goofy. Lots of goals in this squad actually.

  3. Well I’m glad Eric is not getting wound up…

Eric, unless I’ve missed something donald Trumps immigrTion ban was decreed unlawful by the US court and is now ceased? Is that wrong or have all the media outlet say being making it up?

I’d also like to know how people honestly think they know where my political loyalties lie from the fact I only pointed out some home truths (and used actual realities) to Eric on why his nonsensical arguments hold no water. I’m no Trump supporter or UKIP supporter but I am a supporter of exposing not only the media’s hypocrisy but also people like Eric’s when it comes to social political justices.

  4. We must expect more goals from m/f and wingers we cannot just rely on whoever is playing the strikers role

  5. Stuart: you never pointed out any home truths or anything else to me. You did say you liked what Thatcher had done for Britain though.

I am sure you will like what Trumpy, Trump Trump is doing with polluting the Dekotas given the business you are in though.

  6. Aren’t you in the recycling of waste products business, Stuart? Like the opposite of what the Donald is promoting?

      (Quote)

  7. And Stuart: you are wrong on the immigration ban as well. Donald’s initial ban was struck down by the 9th circuit court in Washington (State) but he is going back in to do it again with different wording.

I could explain this and many other things about US politics but it would get really boring and you would just hold up your Thatcher Flag anyway.

  8. And if you want some more information on US politics and The Donald then I will give it to you…

The Energy Secretary is Rick Perry who was on “Dancing with the Stars” not long ago. That’s the equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing.

The “Education Secretary” never sent her kids to school. She “home schooled” them.

The Secretary of State is Rex Tillerson, an Oil Exec.

      (Quote)

  9. And Icedog: if you want a list of shame that Donald has appointed you can start above but also his main advisor is Bannon. From the most disgusting, fascist website in the US and A.

I will leave it there though. Stuart knows best.

  10. Eric – you are completely missing the point but of course you know that! I don’t think Trump will be a particular good president but he is the democratically elected president of the USA so he deserves respect and the policies he is implementing are the same ones he was elected on so you have no argument. He can do it, because he won the election – simple! The US polcitical system won’t let him do many things he wants unless the GOP agree with his policies and don’t quash them. Nobody knows that yet.

As I said, his immigration ban was overturned and now you talk about him trying again. Why shouldn’t he? He was elected on this policy among others. But actually my point about this policy was that when compared to Merkels disastrous immigration policy where nobody could stop her, this was stopped – for how long, who knows…?

You’re a hypocrite, Eric, like many others. Trump gets elected on certain policies, you give him stick for implanting then. You use an example of Germany where Merkel acted more like a dictator than Trump. Because it’s Trump you complain. It’s pathetic.

As for Leicester sacking Ranieri isn’t it a joke?! The players should hang their heads in shame! Same as the owners.

      (Quote)

  11. Oh and just to be clear, Eric so there is no misunderstands – I am defending Donald Trumps right to implement the policies people voted for and for him to pick his own administration. That’s all.

The media are a joke. Obama banned Iraqi refugees in 2011 yet nobody raised an eyebrow. In fact Carter and Clinton both made speeches stating they would do the same – the reaction? Not a jot! 5 of the countries that were on Trumps list (put together by Obama by the way) ban Israelis entering their countries. What did the media do about that? You guessed it – nothing!

Hypocritical nonsense of the highest and disgusting magnitude!

      (Quote)

  12. Stuart: Trump did not get elected on a platform of making Rick “dancing with the stars” Minister of Energy and electing his billionaire buddies to other top jobs.

    Who is the hypocrite?

      (Quote)

  14. Trumpy, Trump Trump got elected on saying nothing except “tremendous” “fantastic” “my hands might be small but my **** isn’t”

He did not say he would have his son-in-law and Steve Bannon as his top advisors. He did not say he would appoint his besties to the top jobs. He did not say he would repeal everything that Obama had done, everything… By executive order so it would sneak through.

    Any more Stuart Thatcher?

  15. Ice: Stuart doesn’t live here and doesn’t understand how crazy Trump is.

I said the DOW would go to 23,000 within 2 years a while ago on here. I will be right. Got half way there already.

I do financial planning for a living by the way.

      (Quote)

  16. Have to agree with Ice on this one. I would also question the % of people who actually vote on policies they fully know and understand.
Trump tries to stop people coming & going and the courts stop him – HE doesn’t even know what he can and can’t do, so how can his voters?!.
I honesty believe if it was anyone other than a Clinton running against him, the opposition would have won.

Look at Brexit. Shortly after it was well believed that if the vote was cast again, it would have been a different outcome – I reckon the same could well be said about the USA.

But equally Stu has a point, he’s been voted in now & has to be allowed to get on with his job. Allow him the rope to hang himself – or might he actually do a better job than we expect?! ?

      (Quote)

  17. And Trumpy, Trump Trump just put Scott Pruit in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency in the USA. The man who wants to dump toxic waste into our rivers and sued the EPA for that right.

    Who is the hypocrite?

  18. Sharpy: Trump was not voted in to overturn everything Obama did and on the slimmest of margins and by executive order. It is not democracy if one man can come in and do what he pleases. That is totalitarianism.

ERIC the only financial know how I have is I ran a factory of about 130 men and women, with a budget of 2mil as long as I made a profit and kept in budget everyone was very happy,we were producing hearing aids for the NHS where there was a waiting list of two years it was going great guns for years, along came Mrs Thatcher and cut spending and said if they have been waiting two years they can wait four years,so the company went back to Denmark, over six months I had to sack all these people it was heartbreaking,I refused to move over to Denmark with the company and spent nearly 18 months touring round Aussie, anyway it’s one reason I hate politics and really don’t wish to discuss it

Eric – you are talking about what he gets up to now he’s in. I’m talking about how he got in – the voting process. The voters had another option in Clinton but the majority (however narrow) picked Trump.
I would question how many picked him coz of his policies – but they voted all the same.

Do you know how many did not voted out of interest?.

  22. More nonsense, Eric. You make arguments that don’t make sense. Which policitan in history ever got elected on the people they would have in their cabinet? Are their appointments in their manifestos?

More rubbish I’m afraid. Any chance sticking to what I am actually saying and not what I’m not saying?

  23. Sharpy: yes I do know how many did not vote.

What Trumpy, Trump Trump did was tell everybody what a **** he would be and is doing so by executive order. Which is like Putin. He is appointing his buddies and the paymasters of the political elite. It is shameful and disgusting.

      (Quote)

  24. And you’re delusional if you think Trump can just do what he wants! Many things he will want to do will need to be passed by congress. The fact GOP have both house of Rep and the senate is kind of irrelevant today because many Republicans don’t like Trump and won’t pass his wish list unless they agree.

  26. It’s sad that people like Eric scant accept his democratic mandate. They all complain about him “not getting the popular vote” or being a dictator or being racist or misogynistic but reality is it’s just because they don’t agree with him. Basically the definition of bigotry is being intolerant of other people’s views. Some people should look in the mirror.

      (Quote)

  27. Are you saying people knew he was going to appoint Bannan as his chief strategist before the election? If so, that’s says they were quite happy with that appointment. If not, you have no point.

  28. Stuart Thatcher: he is passing executive order after executive order to repeal everything from the last 8 years. The nutter is saying he inherited a problem, “tremendous problem, big league”.

Obama inherited 800,000 job losses a month from Bush. The idiot Republicans wanted to let Ford and GM go bust with a loss of 3 million jobs because they said the free market would fix it in the end. In the end we are all dead…

      (Quote)

  29. I wouldn’t want to work for you Stuart. I will tell you that 🙂

Lucky I am self employed 🙂

      (Quote)

  30. His executive orders are the policies he stood on to get elected to a large degree. Whether you personally agree with them, many did and that’s why they voted for him. He was very, very clear that he would build a wall, stop mass immigration, abolish Obama Care and reverse Obama’s Keystone pipeline. Many don’t agree with them but everyone knew what he was promising and many voted for him accordingly.

      (Quote)

  31. “Obamacare” is a healthcare system that a lot of people did not have access to before. The Republican’s are in the pocket of the drug companies.

Stuart, do not pretend that you know what is happening here.

Trump has issued 30 executive orders to overturn every good thing that happened under Obama. He is giving his best mates tax cuts that they don’t need and polluting the planet.

      (Quote)

  32. And…

Obama inherited 800,000 job losses a month. Trumpy has plus 200,000 a month.

He calls that a mess. Is that a mess?

Obama inherited a war started by Bush. Didn’t fix it, but nobody can fix the Middle East. You try Stuart, I am sure you can do it 🙂

Not Dancing with the Stars? Rick Perry.

  38. So it seems there is no grace given to Claudio after all he helped Leicester achieve . The influence of money in the PL is all consuming now. Stay in it at any cost it seems, even if it means binning your most successful manager. Do the owners not realise that the players have pretty much downed tools this season, delusions of grandeur from too many and players on huge wages with no relegation clauses, Leicester are *****d. Very bad decision, should be sacking half the team not Claudio, what price loyalty eh. 🙁

Kim – it’s that typical knee **** reaction. I actually think they would have stayed up once the CL campaign ended, they could just focus on the league and they would have stayed up.
Saw one of those OK mags or whatever it was with Jamie Vardy, his missus & new baby on the front the other day – where’s his priorities this season?, what’s happened to Mahrez? – only Schmicheal that seems arsed.

  45. Here’s my favourite meaningful stat. We’ve played 32 games. Now, that’s a very long time and does produce stats that have some depth, as after such a long spell things are unlikely to change against these teams. In the 32 games we’ve averaged 2.3 points a game. 14 games left, do the maths. 🙂 🙂 😛

Just shows players are only out for themselves, they will blame anyone but themselves ,not only have they stabbed him in the back put tainted all players with the same brush,I hope they go down and a lot of them cannot get a decent club to take on,imo a few managers will be wary of taking them into their club

Ice – yeah I read that too. More NUFC players showed him concern than his own teammates. How or why he ended up at Villa is beyond me to be honest. If WHU didn’t come in, I’d have stayed at Brentford if I were him.
