Siem De Jong’s expert finish earned PSV a 1-0 win over Vitesse yesterday, as the on-loan Newcastle man scored his 4th goal in 3 games for the Dutch giants.
As we reported recently, the 28 year-old is set for a return to Tyneside in the summer, with Benitez expected to hand him a second chance to impress in pre-season.
With this in mind, it is not only great to see the Dutchman fit and playing regularly again, but his performance yesterday was another impressive one by all accounts, as he enjoys a rich vein of form in front of goal.
See below for highlights, which feature De Jong heavily. His goal was very well taken – also look out for his attempted assist at the end of the clip, which highlights the undoubted quality and intelligence he possesses.
De Jong has averaged 1 goal every 3 games during his loan spell with PSV and, if these highlights are anything to go by, he’s looking sharp.
With the ‘no.10’ set to return to Newcastle in the summer to fight for his place, it is great to see him free of injuries, playing regularly and finding some form at long last.
Keep this up and who knows, maybe there’s life yet in De Jong’s Newcastle career, 3 years on after his move from Ajax.
