A message to every NUFC fan heading to St. James’ Park today

Heading to St. James’ Park today for Newcastle’s crucial game against Wigan? This one’s for you.

When asked this week about the recent atmosphere inside St. James’ Park, Rafa Benitez responded with this powerful message to the fans:

“We are together in this race, we are at our strongest when we are united. The fans, the players, the staff – all of us helping to achieve our shared goal. Now is the time to stick together”

Benitez hits the nail on the head here, and his words this week suggest he is fully aware of just how big of a role the fans have to play.

In light of this, we need every single person inside St.James’ Park to be nothing but a positive influence on the team today, in a bid to help our club achieve its ‘shared goal’ – promotion back to the Premier League.

Admittedly, Newcastle’s last two home performances against Bristol City and Fulham haven’t been good enough, justifying frustration amongst the fans. From hereon-in however, that must be put aside. The team needs every ounce of support it can get.

It’s simple. Players have a duty to perform on the pitch and as fans it is our duty to support from the stands. On several occasions this season we’ve warned our players against complacent performances, but I would question whether we, as fans, have ourselves become complacent from the terraces?

Moans and groans at the slightest mistake or backwards passes are not needed at this stage of the season. Negativity breeds negativity and this only serves to disrupt the team, intensifying anxieties on the pitch and contribute to a bad result.

We all have moments when we get lost in the heat of the game, that is to be expected, but we must make every effort to create a positive atmosphere and contribute towards a positive result.

There is no room now for negativity inside St. James’ Park. We’ve reached the final stretch of a long hard season – a hive of anxiety & hostility will only make this harder, but support will see us through as we enter what could be a defining moment in our club’s future over the coming weeks.

As fanatical fans of Newcastle United, we know the impact we can make when the players step out onto the pitch at St.James’ Park, so today, take your manager’s advice and stay behind your team from first whistle to last. Be the 12th man & do your bit to get our great club back where it belongs.

Let’s stay United! For Rafa, for our team, for promotion and for the future of our beloved football club.

Together we are stronger – WE can be the difference.

  1. Agree Olly, by all means have a moan about it if the play is poor but no groans or boos, it’s not gonna improve the teams performance in game time.
Really hoping for the win today, if we can then the confidence to go on and win the next will be there
    HWTL

  2. Too many prawn sarney munchers at the toon these days. Way too fickle, concentrating on taking selfies and forgetting the footy. get behind the team ffs.

  3. DJ: I think you have put your figure on what is really wrong with the world – too many bloody selfies. I’m semi-serious because it is an expression of how so many people have become so self-obsessed.

  4. The threads with open comments are getting a bit too numerous now.

Palace game is live in the USA with Townsend and Cabaye in the lineup. I am always interested in watching ex-players and lets see how Townsend does against an organized Chelsea defense.

Also, I think if the Mackems do not win today they are as good as down. No more great escapes. Actually, they should have been playing that music as the players walk out rather than Prokofiev. Everything they do is so contrived, what with that, the Black Cats and Stadium of Light.

  5. can’t get on to the nufc website to get radio link . Anyone else having problems?

  6. I cant find radio link for some reason kimtoon. Do you have a link and I will try.

  7. Nothing on periscope or facebook live like there was at some time in the recent past?

  8. Cutting out again. Does anybody at NUFCTV actually listen to their radio feed? This has been happening for weeks, you would think somebody would fix it by now.

  9. Eric , Some weeks it’s better than others, it’s pretty bad today like

  10. So this is where everyone is…. been talking to myself on the last thread. ?

Sorry DT. I should have gone back to tell you. I was not sure either, so I checked every recent thread. It is a little bit confusing to find which thread is for most recent discussion.

  12. 5 shots 1 on target so far 55% possession for toon
0 shots o on target and 44% possession for Wigan so far

  13. Gayleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  14. sounds Diame put in a great effort for the goal. I was bitching him silently a few minutes ago. Maybe that is working? 😆

  15. 10 fouls by wigan so far this half, seems like the team talk was kick us off the park

  16. I see Leicester are winning again, surely proof them players had downed tools under Claudio

  17. Kimtoon:

    Results justified Claudio’s leaving …

  18. Is the 2nd half radio link the same as the first half? My radio link is not working now.

Just refresh mate, then press play again.

  20. funrafa: Results justified Claudio’s leaving …
well, maybe so but leaves a nasty taste when players can be so sly . What changed from last season other than Kante leaving, effort wasn’t there.

  21. very lucky to get away with that free kick , Colback nearly cost us there

  22. Kimtoon:

I was wondering the same thing – what happened behind the door? Things like this happen so often in football. I was angry when Rafa was let go at RM, but I realised afterwards that is a perfectly right action for Rafa and RM – looked at how RM performed after him, and Rafa is much happier here at NewCastle. But don’t get me wrong, I have the highest respect to Claudio. I think he is a gentleman, and he will be successful at other team, or even he may return to Fox someday in the future …

  23. they have had 3 shots this half and scored already and should of scored a second from that set piece . We have had 13 shots all game so far, need to be much more clinical.

  24. Ritchieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
    Brilliant

  25. Fulham cannot buy a goal v Rotherham who are relegated today I think , yet put 3 past us at SJP.
    very odd league this

  26. Kimtoon:
    Brighton have scored

Not too worried about Brighton to be honest, more about Huddersfield, just want that gap to third to widen…

  27. Dubai Toon: Not too worried about Brighton to be honest, more about Huddersfield, just want that gap to third to widen…

Agree mate, be nice to be 9 points clear end of the day

  28. I think we need a third goal here, don’t like it when it’s only a goal in it…

  29. Blimey this sites been a nightmare today, freezing all over the shot 👿

  30. Shows that Palace were being held back by a clueless manager. I don’t like the corrupt Toad of Toad Hall but when he was appointed you just knew they wouldn’t be relegated with that squad. Remember they spent 28 million on Benteke, 16 on Cabaye and 14 on Townsend. They should never have been anywhere near relegation.

  31. good win and Hudders 1 down now 🙂
I’m away as site playing up really badly, won’t refresh properly, freezing and slow typing 🙁
    will try later

  32. That’s us up then. We are 10 points ahead of Huddersfield, but really 11 given our far superior GD. They have a game in hand but they would need to get more than a point per game MORE THAN US to overtake us. That is almost impossible and they also are a streaky team and have gone off the boil again. Leeds also play Reading next and they both can’t win.

The only question remaining is whether will be Champions or not and I doubt many of us are that bothered.

Mackems are 50-1 ON to get relegated. Don’t you just love karma, especially for the banner fliers.

  33. Sorry to see Ed Harrison isn’t doing that great. I wish him well as he has steadfastly stuck with his blog through thick and thin. He also loves Rafa.
