Two former Mags continue to flourish with ‘The Magpies’

Ex-NUFC duo, Kevin Nolan and Shola Ameobi may have left Newcastle United, but the pair continue to flourish in black and white, doing wonders for League two side, Notts County.

The 34 year-old Nolan was announced as Notts County manager in January this year, arriving with the club just 1 point above the relegation zone.

No sooner had the former United captain registered himself as a player, becoming the club’s player manager, he signed Newcastle United cult hero, Shola Ameobi in the days that followed!

Not only did this see the former Newcastle pair reunited, it is rather fitting that they came together at a club nicknamed ‘The Magpies’, who sure enough, also happen to play in black and white – you couldn’t write this!

Three months later, Notts County now sit a comfortable 13 points above the drop zone, with the pair having done wonders at the club.

Like his influence on the pitch during his time on Tyneside, Nolan has appeared to galvanise the team, winning 4 of their last 5 games.

In this period, it is also worth noting that 35 year old Shola Ameobi has an impressive 4 goals in his last 5 outings with the ‘Mackem-slayer’ scoring more goals over the weekend (two) than the entire Sunderland team have managed in their last 5 matches (zilch)!

It is nostalgic to see Shola continue to find the net in black and white, with the future looking bright for Notts County under Kevin Nolan; a model professional who I will always have time for.
