‘Unbelievable’ NUFC loanee continues to impress, scoring 3 goals in a week

Newcastle United youngster, Ivan Toney, is continuing to impress during his loan spell with Scunthorpe United, bagging 3 goals in a week for the League One side.

Toney, who joined the Magpies from Northampton in 2015, put in an impressive display on the Sky cameras last month, scoring twice in Scunthorpe’s 3-2 win over Bradford. Since then, the 21 year-old has added another 3 goals to his tally this season following an extended run in the side.

The rangy striker scored Scunthorpe’s winner in their 1-0 away win to MK Dons last Friday and was on the scoresheet again on Monday, netting twice in a 3-1 home win over Chesterfield.

Manager, Graham Alexander, spoke highly of Toney’s ability and attitude when speaking to Scunthorpe’s official website this week:

“Ivan’s first goal was an unbelievable, towering header against a goalkeeper of that size.

“His first showed a desire to win that ball and score. It’s great for him but he knows as well as anybody else that it’s about the whole team.”

His latest flurry of goals mean the Newcastle youngster now has a highly respectable 13 goals in 27 starts in League One this season, guiding The Irons to 4th in the league, boosting their bid to earn promotion to the Championship.

United officials will no doubt have their eye on his progress this season and will be buoyed by his rise to form with Scunthorpe.

Doing the business in League One may be a million miles from the level we hope to aspire to, but his goalscoring form all bodes well for a player set to return to the club for pre-season in the summer. One to watch perhaps.
