Newcastle United defender set for summer exit

The Chronicle report this afternoon that Newcastle United defender Achraf Lazaar looks set to be sold this summer, with the left-back in search for regular first team football.

The Moroccan international was signed by Rafa Benitez just last summer, joining for a fee in the region of £3m from Serie A side, Palermo.

Since then, however, the 25 year-old has made just 9 appearances for the Magpies, failing to make any real impact in the team.

The Chronicle understands that Lazaar wants to play regular first team football next season – being something Rafa Benitez can not guarantee him following promotion back to the Premier League.

Given his lack of game time and his reported wage packet of £35,000 per week, you can see why a summer exit may make sense for all parties.

A move to Spain or Italy has been suggested as the ideal escape route for Lazaar according to the report.
