NUFC duo set to be sold this summer according to local report

According to the Chronicle, Grant Hanley and Daryl Murphy look set to leave the club this summer as part of a summer overhaul at St. James’ Park.

The pair signed on Tyneside less than 12 months ago, but could be heading through the exit door this summer as Rafa Benitez prepares to build a squad fit for the Premier League.

Hanley, who signed from Blackburn for £5.6m last summer, has endured a frustrating season. He has done a steady job when called upon, but has seen his chances limited due to the solid partnership formed by Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles.

The 25 year-old Scot is understood to be attracting interest from Wolves and Derby this summer. He’s a seasoned Championship campaigner, but not a player I’d expect to take too kindly to the pace of Premier League football.

Murphy has chipped in with some pivotal goals and has proven to be a useful at Championship level, however, like Hanley, I wouldn’t expect the 33 year-old to make the step to the top flight.

It may seem strange that Rafa is looking to replace two players he signed so recently, but it must be considered that he is now preparing for a completely different animal in the Premier League.
