NUFC linked with a summer move for £12m rated Inter Milan defender

Newcastle United are interested in Inter Milan centre-back Jeison Murillo according to Italian report Gazzette dello Sport.

The Colombian international is believed to have been made available this summer by the Italian giants, and is said to be valued at £10-£12m.

Newcastle are one of several clubs rumoured to be interested in the 24-year-old this summer, with the report claiming we will face competition from Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Monaco for his signature.

It was reinforced again today by local press that Rafa Benitez is interested in signing ‘at least one’ centre-back this summer, with Murillo becoming a the latest name linked with a move to Tyneside.

He stands at just 5 ft 11, so is small as centre-backs go, but is believed to have impressive athleticism and speed across the ground – traits not too dissimilar to current United defender Chancel Mbemba.

It remains to be seen as to whether this rumour has any substance to it, but Benitez is certainly in the market for defenders this summer and may just raid a few of his old clubs (such as Inter Milan) to make use of his many contacts in the game.
