Newcastle United make £10.4m bid for Senegalese winger?

According to reports in France, Newcastle United have made a £10.4m bid for Metz winger Ismaila Sarr –  currently at Ligue 1 side Metz.

The 19-year-old winger claimed 5 goals and 1 assist in France last season and can play on either wing. France football claim that Metz are likely to want £13m for the Senegalese International, with Watford and Lille also said to be interested in his services.

It is no secret that Rafa Benitez is looking to sign wingers this summer. Newcastle are expected to sign another TWO wingers following the arrival of Christian Atsu, with Yoan Gouffran and Sammy Ameobi likely to be released in the coming days.

Sarr appears to be a player with potential, however you’d hope to be receiving a player who’s closer to the finishes article for a fee of £10m?

With our current options in mind, it’s fair to say we need some proven quality out wide, raising doubts over a move for 19-year-old Sarr. Christian Atsu and Roland Aarons have the ability to excite, but it is only Matt Ritchie who could be described as a winger of consistent quality.

I’m not convinced that we’ll be shelling out this sort of money on a player who’s played just one season of French league football, especially when the likes of Andros Townsend could be available for not a great deal more.

  1. This lad will terrify defenders and would be a great addition to the squad if it comes off.
