The Sheffield Star claims an exclusive today, reporting that Sheffield Wednesday have made a move to sign Newcastle United centre-back Grant Hanley.
The Scottish International signed for the Mags less than 12 months ago, but has went on to make just 16 appearances all season and has been told he can leave the club over the coming months in search for regular first team football.
Derby County were believed to have lodged a £4m bid for the defender last month, however have since signed former Hull City centre-back Curtis Davies, all but ending their interest in Hanley.
It seems Sheffield Wednesday are now keen to take the no nonsense Scot off our hands this summer, although a bid in excess of £4m will be required, with Newcastle keen to recoup the £5m paid for Hanley last summer.
Grant did a solid job when called upon last season, but currently resides as fourth choice centre-back at the club, and is a player who I would not expect to cope well with the step up to the Premier League.
Sheffield Wednesday would be a good move for him and a deal that makes sense for all parties.
