Newcastle United announce list of retained players – 4 long serving players released by NUFC

Following the 2016/17 season, Newcastle United have this afternoon announced their list of retained players, confirming that long serving players Vurnon Anita, Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic and Lubo Satka will all leave the club when their contracts expire this summer.

The future of Yoan Gouffran is yet to be decided, however, with the club having opened discussions with his representatives over a possible contract extension for the Frenchman.

Florian Thauvin’s St. James’ Park exit has been finally confirmed, having completed his permanent move to Marseille following a loan spell at the French club – NUFC are believed to have received a fee in the region of £10m.

It’s good news for Sean Longstaff, Tom Heardman, Dan Ward, Jack Hunter, Luke Charman, Michael Newberry and goalkeeper Paul Woolston, however, who have all been offered new professional contracts.

Joining the academy on two-year scholarships are Max Allen, Ryan Barrett, Thomas Cole, Sam Joyce, Deese Kasinga Madia and Jack Young.

A big thanks to Vurnon Anita for what he has given the club over the past few years. He may never have stood out as the worlds most talented footballer, but always gave his all in whatever position he was played in.
