Premier League stopper emerges as new goalkeeping target for NUFC

Newcastle United have identified West Ham goalkeeper Adrian as their back up target to Pepe Reina should they fail to do a deal for the Napoli number one according to the Sun.

It has been widely reported that Rafa Benitez is looking to sign another goalkeeper this summer, with Matz Sels almost certain to leave over the coming weeks and Karl Darlow and Tim Krul’s future appearing to be in doubt.

Whilst it is no secret that Pepe Reina is a player Benitez would love to bring to Tyneside this summer, a deal for his former Liverpool and Napoli stopper could be a difficult one to pull off.

With this in mind, the Sun claim that West Ham’s Adrian has been identified as a back up option.

The 30-year-old Spaniard has been West Ham’s number one over recent years, however lost his place to the Hammers’ Darren Randolph during spells of last season after some indifferent displays.

Time will tell whether this transfer rumour holds any truth, but given his struggles last season, Adrian appears to be a slightly underwhelming alternative to the classy Pepe Reina.
