Revealed: Ashley tells Benitez about potential investment at NUFC & what it could mean for him

Following last night’s breaking news regarding a potential takeover, the Telegraph reveal that Mike Ashley is ready to sell a share of Newcastle United and that Rafa Benitez in fact knows all about the the billionaire owner’s plans to do so.

The Telegraph have revealed late last night that when Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez met for crunch talks last month, the NUFC owner told Benitez that he was open to selling a share of the club, stating that any incoming investment would be handed to the Spaniard as additional transfer funds for the upcoming windows.

It us understood by the Telegraph that talks are ongoing and Ashley is open to selling a share of the business, as he does not expect investors to match the £400 million asking price needed to complete a full takeover.

The report also states that Benitez is ‘relaxed’ about such negotiations after gaining assurances that this will have ‘no impact’ on his ability to recruit players this summer.

This could turn out to be hugely reassuring news, with several fans worried that a potential takeover could unsettle Benitez and potentially scupper his attempt to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League next season.
