Spanish media provide the latest on Florian Lejeune’s £8.7m move to Newcastle United

Reports in Spain have provided a reassuring update on Florian Lejeune’s move to Newcastle today, revealing that Eibar centre-back is ‘finally’ on his way to Newcastle, with an announcement expected ‘soon’.

It had been suggested earlier in the week that Newcastle were closing in on highly-rated La Liga defender, but things have gone quiet despite reports in the North-East claiming the deal was on track. News from Spain today confirms the deal is all but done.

Lejeune helped Spanish minnows Eibar to a top 10 finish last season and was regarded as one of the top performing defenders in Spain last term.

Despite us being heavily linked with Ruben Semedo and Eliaquim Mangala in recent weeks, it has been confirmed by several sources that Lejeune is Benitez’s top defensive target, and it is reassuring to hear that the deal is nearing it’s completing today.

The 26-year-old Frenchman stands 6ft 3 tall and has been described as ‘tailor-made’ for the Premier League according to Sky Sports’ La Liga pundit Terry Gibson.

We’ve watched back some Eibar games from last season and we were impressed by what we saw, but for anyone whose yet to catch a glimpse of Lejeune, here’s him in action last season:
