Eibar sporting director Fran Garagarza has delivered an update on the future of long-standing NUFC target Florian Lejeune, suggesting he still expects the centre-back to complete a move to England with Newcastle.
It was widely reported last week that Lejeune’s move to Tyneside was imminent, however negotiations appear to have dragged, with Newcastle continuing to discuss the breakdown of the £8.7m payment with Eibar.
Following a quiet few days, with little update on Lejeune’s situation, Eibar’s sporting director’s words are music to the ears of those who may have worried that a deal was stalling.
Here’s what Fran Garagarza had to say when asked about Lejeune’s proposed move to Newcastle yesterday:
“Right now all the roads point to England. The English are showing their interest and we fear that it will not continue with us.”
According to The Chronicle, sources close to the deal suggest that the Frenchman’s transfer to Newcastle is very close, with the 6ft 3 centre-back’s signature expected to finally be confirmed by the start of pre-season next Monday.
Rafa needs a breakthrough to ease his frustrations. Let’s hope this one is finally wrapped up in the coming days.
