Rafa Benitez offered the chance to sign former Arsenal prospect on a free transfer

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign former Arsenal prospect Stefan O’Connor on a free transfer after the defender was released by Arsene Wenger this summer.

A potential two-year-deal could be on the table for the 20-year-old according to The Mirror, with Rafa Benitez looking to rebuild his U-23 squad as well as the first team at Newcastle.

O’Connor stands 6ft 1′ tall and is predominantly a central defender, but is also capable of playing at right-back. His release from Arsenal this summer ended his 7 year spell at the club after joining the Gunners from Crystal Palace as a 13-year-old.

He has represented England U-17’s and has made just one senior appearance for Arsenal, coming on for the final 13 minutes in their 4-1 away win against Galatasaray in the 2014 Champions League group stages.

We know little about O’Connor, but if Arsenal ‘reject’ Isaac Hayden is anything to go by, it may be wise to take on another!
