An exclusive in The Telegraph today confirms Newcastle look to set to miss out on loan target Ruben Loftus-Cheek, with the Chelsea prospect expected to complete his medical with Crystal Palace in the next 24 hours.
We have been linked with loan moves for a number of Chelsea youngsters this summer, such as Tammy Abraham, Nathan Ake and Loftus-Cheek and the latter looks set to be Frank De Boer’s first signing at Palace after fending off reported interest from ourselves, Southampton and Brighton.
Loftus-Cheek is a 6ft 3 attacking midfielder and like Abraham is highly rated at Stamford bridge. He has 7 goals in 17 appearances for England U-21’s and will be looking for some vital first team experience next season.
He looks to have secured that with Palace, and while it’s hard to know if our interest was ever concrete this summer, it has been reported that he was keen to stay in the south.
A good prospect, but given his age, experience and intentions to only stay on loan, I won’t lose any sleep over this one.
