Boost for Benitez as it’s confirmed winger target IS keen on a move to NUFC

Some more positive news in the transfer market for Benitez today as The Chronicle confirm that England under-21 winger Jacob Murphy is keen on a move to Newcastle  if a fee can be agreed with Norwich City.

It is understood that we had an £8million offer for Murphy turned down earlier this week, but it has since been suggested that Rafa Benitez wants Newcastle to up their offer, with the winger thought to be keen to talk to Newcastle to get his chance to shine in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old, who is known to be a boyhood Newcastle United fan, bagged 13 goals and 6 assists for Norwich last season, including goals at Carrow road and St. James’ Park when the two sides met in the Championship.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why the youngster has impressed Rafa, having also shone in the U-21 European Championship for England this summer, where NUFC scout Steve Nickson was in attendance.

Norwich are believed to want considerably more than the £8m initially offered, but with Murphy a Newcastle United fan and keen to link up with Rafa Benitez in the Premier League, there might just be life in this deal yet, with player power having a real influence on modern day transfers.

  1. More like £8m + another £8m. We dont want useless cast offs like Daryl Murphy. Don’t forget this is a player with 4 full years on his contract.

  2. 4 full years but not yet proven at premier league level so a risk to NUFC. There are a stack of Newcastle players available as part of the deal that are Championsip proven and will add to your squad which is key to getting out of that league. Darlow, Hanley, Colback….the list goes on

  3. I understand. But we dont want to sell from what i gather and he is one of our most important players. We sold Redmond for close to £15m with a single year on his contract, since then fees have gone crazy and Murphy is both younger and has a longer contract.

We have GK sorted, Hanley is on crazy wages no? I heard 40k +, we would not pay that, though i would take him if wages were less than £20k.

Some kind of swap deal involving Gayle though, that’d be interesting!
