It was revealed late last night that PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has arrived in London to discuss proposals from several Premier League clubs just days after The Chronicle confirmed Newcastle’s interest in the French stopper.
News from Italy suggested this week that Rafa Benitez looked likely to miss out on number one goalkeeping target Pepe Reina and, following this development, The Chronicle revealed that Areola had been discussed in transfer meetings at Newcastle.
The 24-year-old started 15 games for PSG last season but lost the number one spot to Kevin Trapp, and reports have suggested that the promising 6ft 3′ stopper could be available for £13m this summer.

With Benitez in the market for a new number one, Pepe Reina looking set to sign a new deal at Napoli and Newcastle believed to have no interest in Joe Hart, Rafa will be on the look out for alternative targets and last night’s development has added fuel to the fire.
Given he was confirmed as a potential target this week and has now arrived in England to talk to several Premier League sides, there’s a very real chance we could be one of them.
