Long-serving NUFC forward looks set to turn down contract in favour of a move to Turkey

Despite recently released winger Yoan Gouffran being offered a new deal at Newcastle United, the Frenchman Yoan looks set to join Turkish league side Goztepe SK according to The Chronicle.

Newcastle had been waiting on Gouffran’s decision after offering him a 1-year deal to keep him at St. James’ Park, however the Goztepe SK President Mehmet Sepil claims the Turkish Super Lig side are confident of securing his signature.

The 31-year-old has been a player reborn under Rafa Benitez and did a solid job in the team last season, scoring 7 goals in 45 appearances, however I believe his departure could be a blessing.

He is a good athlete, is relatively versatile and works hard for the team, but Newcastle are crying out for fresh faces and wingers who could offer more offensively that the ageing Frenchman. I feel he no longer has it in him to make any real impact in the Premier League.

In parts a decent servant of the club, but, for me, his departure would be a good move for all parties.
