- A surprise breakthrough today as Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mikel Merino has arrived on Tyneside to complete a medical after Newcastle agreed a deal with the German giants (Various).
- The Chronicle have revealed that Bas Dost, Michy Batshuayi, Joshua King, Islam Slimani and Mattia Destro are five strikers on Benitez’s radar this summer.
- Liverpool have told Newcastle they must meet Sheyi Ojo’s £10m asking price if they wish to sign the explosive England U-21 winger this summer (The Chronicle)
- Portuguese reports claimed Newcastle were close to agreeing a £13m deal to sign Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris, however The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder states a bid is yet to be lodged by NUFC.
- The Telegraph claim Rafa Benitez will look to bring in another FOUR players this summer once the signing of Mikel Merino is confirmed.
- Former Newcastle United centre-back Mike Williamson has joined League One side Oxford following his release from Wolves.
