According to Portuguese report ‘O Jogo’, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Benfica winger Andre Carrillo – but will face competition from Crystal Palace, Stoke, Watford and Huddersfield for his signature.
The pacey Peruvian is believed to be available at a cut-price fee of just £6m, with the story also suggesting that £1.75m would be enough to secure him on a season-long loan.
Carrillo made 162 appearances for Sporting Lisbon, notching 16 goals before leaving for Benfica on a free transfer last summer following the expiry of his contract expired last summer.
The 26-year old is known for his blistering pace and was, at one stage, considered to be one of the top prospects in the Portuguese League, however his career appears to have stalled after becoming a bit part player at Benfica.
With Benitez believed to be in the market for one more winger, a loan deal with a view to a permanent deal may be a shrewd bit of business.
